Shilin, or the Stone Forest is located in Shilin Yi Ethnic Autonomous District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province in southwest China, about 78 km from Kunming, capital of the province. In areas covering hundreds of square miles of hilly forest clusters are large and small stones are scattered on the slopes of hills and valleys and wet soils. The total area of the Stone Forest scenery area about 12 miles square, is the largest karst topography in China even the world. Forest areas and small boulders are a tourist attraction that is often visited by tourists.
Big Stone Forest area is located in the central part of the Stone Forest scenery throughout the area, is the most representative area of landscape and historic maximum. Moreover, here there are also objects of the famous tourist like the Lotus Flower Peak, Peak Fitness Sword and others. The tour guide introduces Yunhua Bi peak that is named "Mount of the Sword and the Lake of Fire". Named 'Mount of the Sword and the Lake of Fire' because the stones at the top is shaped like a sharp sword that pierced the sky as a result of rain water scour in a long time, are the stones that were once buried under the ground and there are traces of the flow of water.
Large Stone Forest consists of peaks of rock that meeting, tourists can walk in the crevices of the rock peak. Form of the stones are very diverse and strange, there are like objects, some are like people. Top of the stone that is named "Mother and Child" looks like a mother holding her child walking. "Elephant in the Court of Stone" like an elephant standing on the rock. There are nearly a hundred rocks were named as the appropriate form. The stone here is not just odd shape, some are when a noise that sounded beautiful and is called the 'stone bell'. "
Compared with the Big Stone Forest, Minor Stone Forest seemed more innocent, the most famous sights in the Small Stone Forest is Ashima because here there is a high rock that looks like a pretty girl in a fairy tale named Ashima ethnic Yi: wearing the head scarf, supporting a cart, stand gracefully looked up to see far ahead. Now, the Small Stone Forest scenery decorated with lights. At night, with the beam lights, tourists can see different kinds of stones of strange shape.
At the north end of the Stone Forest scenery there is a forest of stone called Naigu which means "old black" in Sani ethnic Yi. The rocks here and meeting great height, from a distance looks like a stone castles are magnificent. When we climbed up the rocks, it would seem the ocean vast black stone lay beneath. Beneath the stone forest there is also the world's cave of unique karst landscape so as to form three-dimensional landscape.
