Shilin, or the Stone Forest is located in Shilin Yi Ethnic Autonomous District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province in southwest China, about 78 km from Kunming, capital of the province. In areas covering hundreds of square miles of hilly forest clusters are large and small stones are scattered on the slopes of hills and valleys and wet soils. The total area of the Stone Forest scenery area about 12 miles square, is the largest karst topography in China even the world.
